Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a typical college planning meeting last?
Each meeting with Ms. Bixby typically last around 1hr.
How many meetings do I need?
That completely depends on your college planning needs. Some students only need one meeting to complete one task such as review their college essay, or partake in a mock college interview. Some students may want to meet with me reguarly to develop their list of colleges and review their applications. Regardless of how many times we meet, we offer families the ability to contact us anytime with questions.
Do you meet with students in the spring or fall?
Both, and over the summer as well! In the spring, we typically meet with Juniors to begin the college search and assess admissions chances. We can also help students pick summer programs and senior courses to optimize their application. In the fall, we typically meet with Seniors to finalize college lists, complete applications, do mock-interviews, review essays and discuss financial aid options.
Can you help with financial aid?
Yes, Ms. Bixby partners with Arete Wealth Management, a premier financial planning service, to help families protect their assets, simplify the financial application process, fill out complicated financial aid forms and apply for scholarships. With a little strategic planning and practical advice, families can significantly save on college costs.
Can you promise that my son or daughter will get into a highly selective college?
No, and please don't partner with anyone who makes such claims. Ultimately, colleges will review a student's application and make an admission decision. What we can do is make sure that students are applying to appropriately challenging colleges, and sending in the best possible application to highlight their strengths.
